Janet's Video Diary 26 March 2006

Here is a video my Darling Wife and Precious Daughter made of our soon-to-be-demolished house in New Orleans near the London Avenue Canal. It features moldy walls, waterlogged furniture, amateur photography and all the color and chaos brought by Katrina.

Wow! Your daughter seems to have a great attitude, no doubt from great parents. I am so sorry for your loss. My husband and I drove through N. O. on the way from MS to TX earlier in the month, and we had not seen it since the storm. I was blown away! We attended the baptist seminary from 96-99, so we were familiar with the area. I just can't believe even 6 months later how bad it is. I think the erriest part was driving down Ponchatrain and similar streets and seeing the spray paint Xs. It was a very sobering sight. God bless you and your family.

Great video. Your wife and daughter are indeed darling and precious.

Oh, Tim, that is so heartbreaking and Laurie's right, they are darling and precious, and strong and wise. I'm assuming that was sadness in your wife's voice, rather than a side effect of Katrina cough.

God bless you, all of you. Some of us out here don't have Katrina fatigue and haven't stopped thinking of those of you who are there.

"...the ceiling fans are like sad flowers..."

That's the part that got me.

Thank you for sharing this.

I'm sorry this made people sad. It wasn't our idea to do so. We were just thinking to document this extraordinary time in the life of our community and family and were going to do more as events unfold and/or topics come into Janet's head.

We didn't feel at all gloomy making it.

Don't be sorry. It's good for us to be reminded that Katrina is FAR from over for you all. And your attitude is a wonderful example. :-)

We've started a campaign to get Bush to fund the levees and bring attention to the issue.
We're asking people to send their Mardi Gras Beads (any beads will do) to Bush with a message to fund the levees.

Info is here...
Send Your Beads to Bush

We need pictures of people getting their beads ready to send. Can you help? Send any pics to scoutp@charter.net

Thanks for sharing! Your daughter did a great job! Made me think of how powerful kids are at dealing with difficult situations - and how great that she can use her creativity to help her cope with this one.

I love the 'sad flowers' part, it made me smile because I know we are going to keep moving and go on to rebuild our lovely neighborhood. Flowers are beautiful, even if they look sad.

My daughters and I watched the video. It was absolute motivation and we thank you for the dose. Your family is beautiful, brave and just what this city needs. We send our best from the west bank.
